content from conversation
Content from conversation means turning a short spoken conversation with the actual expert into a published page, so real expertise becomes content that ranks without anyone sitting down to write it.
Most business owners know their subject cold and can answer a client’s question in thirty seconds without thinking twice. Ask that same person to sit down and write a web page about it, and the words often will not come, or they come out stiff and generic, nothing like how they actually talk to a real person across a table. Content from conversation is built to skip that gap entirely. Instead of asking someone to write, I ask them to talk, the way they already do all day, and build the page from what they say.
A short, focused conversation on one topic gets recorded, transcribed, and shaped into a real published page, in the practitioner’s own words and reasoning rather than a generic template filled in with their name. The expertise was always there. What was missing was a way to get it onto the page without demanding a skill, formal writing, that has nothing to do with being good at the actual work.
Why it matters to you
Good content depends on real expertise showing through, and E-E-A-T exists precisely to reward pages where that expertise is genuine rather than assembled from generic industry copy. A conversation captures the specific way one real practitioner actually thinks about a subject, which is exactly the kind of distinct, credible voice that stands out against competitors publishing the same recycled overview everyone else has.
It also solves the actual bottleneck. Plenty of businesses know they need more pages, more answers to real client questions, published on their site. Almost none of them have the spare hours to write those pages themselves, and hiring that out to a generic copywriter usually produces exactly the generic content that fails to stand out. A conversation takes the time a phone call takes, not the time a writing assignment takes.
How I use it
I pick a specific question or topic worth its own page, the kind that would make a strong service page, and have a short conversation with the person who actually knows the answer, the way they would explain it to a real client sitting across from them. I use that conversation, sometimes with AI assistance drafting a first structure from the transcript, to shape a page around what was actually said.
The client always reviews and gives final approval before anything publishes. The expertise and the judgment calls stay theirs. What changes is that the work of turning that expertise into a finished page no longer depends on them finding time to write.
What it looks like in practice
A counselling practice building out pages for several distinct approaches gets each one from a short conversation about that specific approach, rather than from a blank page and a deadline. The result reads like someone who actually does this work talking directly to someone who needs it, because that is exactly what it is.
Questions I get about this
- Isn't this just AI writing my content for me?
- The words a client actually says come first. AI helps organise a transcript into a structured page and speed up the routine parts of the build, but the expertise, the actual answers, the actual way a practitioner talks about their own field, comes from the person, not generated from nothing. The client gives final approval before anything goes live.
- Why not just ask a client to write the page themselves?
- Because most business owners are experts in their field, not in writing web pages, and the gap between those two skills is exactly what keeps good content from ever getting made. Talking through a question out loud, the way you would explain it to a client, is something an expert can already do easily. Writing it down formally often is not.
- How long does one of these conversations usually take?
- Short, by design. The whole point is that it should not be a burden on someone already running a business. A focused conversation on one topic, one service, one common question, gives enough real material to build a solid page from, without asking for hours of someone's time they do not have to spare.
