Cloudflare Email Sending
Cloudflare Email Sending is a built-in way for a website's own forms to send email from your own domain without paying for or routing through a separate mail provider.
When someone fills out a form on your website, whether it is a quote request or a contact enquiry, something has to actually send that information to you. Most website builders route that email through a separate mail-sending service, often at an extra monthly cost, and often as an account that sits outside the business’s own control.
Cloudflare Email Sending does that job directly, from inside the same Cloudflare account that already hosts the site and manages its DNS. A form submission gets emailed from an address on your own domain, straight to your inbox, with no separate vendor holding the pipe in between. It is built for exactly this kind of automated, one-way notification, not for running a full mailbox.
Because it lives in the same account as everything else, there is nothing extra to sign up for, configure separately, or pay a recurring bill to keep running.
Why it matters to you
Every extra service sitting between a form submission and your inbox is another place a lead can get lost. A third-party mail provider can throttle sending, get flagged as spam by a receiving mailbox, or simply have an outage on the day a valuable enquiry comes in. Cutting that middle step out removes one whole category of failure, along with the bill that usually comes attached to it.
It also keeps your leads under your own control from end to end. There is no separate vendor account holding the connection between your website and your inbox, which means no separate login someone else could hold, and nothing extra to untangle if a working relationship with a developer or agency ever ends.
How I set it up
I wire a site’s forms to send through Cloudflare Email Sending using an address on the client’s own domain, configured inside the Cloudflare account the client already owns. Because it lives alongside the DNS and mail delivery records for the domain, the setup stays consistent with everything else and does not require a separate service or subscription.
On sites where losing a lead would be a real problem, I pair it with a private database that saves every submission the moment it comes in, so even a missed or misplaced email never means a lost enquiry.
What it looks like in practice
To you, it looks exactly like an email arriving. Someone submits a form, and within moments a message lands in your inbox from an address on your own domain, formatted the way the form was set up to send it. There is no dashboard to check, no separate account to log into, and nothing running behind it beyond the site and the Cloudflare account that already powers everything else.
Questions I get about this
- Does this replace my regular business email, like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?
- No. This is specifically for automated notifications a website sends on its own, such as a new enquiry landing in your inbox. Your day-to-day email for sending and receiving as a person still runs through whatever provider you use, like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
- Why does it matter that there is no third-party provider in the middle?
- Fewer providers means fewer places a lead notification can get delayed, filtered as spam, or simply lost. It also means one less monthly bill, and one less account someone else could hold hostage if a business relationship ever ends.
